Nothing Beats the Human Spirit-Written By David Carruthers

Life isn't easy in this world, but everything is definitely possible to achieve. With hardwork, perseverance, teamwork and empowering others to soar, nothing beats the human spirit. Camp Abilities Bangladesh 2018 is living proof of this. It was organized by Dr. Rehnuma Karim, founder of Heroes for All and Camp Abilities USA. Both are amazing causes that help youngsters overcome the impossible. For those who don't know, Heroes for All is a youth leadership platform and non for profit organization. Camp Abilities USA is a developmental sports camp for the visually impaired, blind or deaf-blind. Thank goodness for wonderful organizations like these two and all of their amazing volunteers that help others to be their best. It just goes to show you that when good people come together for the right reason, anything can happen and dreams that seem far fetched are in fact a reality.
When I first heard about visually impaired kids playing cricket in Bangladesh, I was not only beyond fascinated, I couldn't wait to learn more about what took place in 2018. I knew these incredible kids would leave their mark on my heart after learning more about this magical event that happened almost four years ago. I was totally floored what these young girls and boys accomplished at the camp. They didn't let their disabilities stand in their way, they flew over them like a ball going over the boundary line before it hits the ground. For people reading this article who don't know a thing about the sport, this is called a 6. In baseball, this is known as a homerun. You see, I'm a huge sports' fan, but only over the last couple of years have I discovered more about the fantastic game of cricket. Thanks to a great friend and countless videos online, I have grown to understand the sport and just how truly difficult it is to play. I tip my hat to all of the professionals and amateurs around the globe that play this unbelievably challenging game. Their hand eye coordination and other athletic abilities are tested each time they step onto the cricket pitch. With this being said, I'm beyond amazed at what these kids accomplished several years ago, but deep down I'm not. You see, as a fan of the underdog, I know that these special individuals can literally go through and over any obstacle that stands in their way. Even though the odds were stacked against the youngsters that participated in Camp Abilities Bangladesh 2018, they showed that anything in life is possible. When you believe and try your best, nothing beats the human spirit.
